E Safety

Information Technology brings with it many advantages allowing people to access a range of different information, to buy items at reduced prices and from different sources.

It enables people to stay in contact with family and friends and opens up the world for everyone. However, IT also brings with it many challenges and opens people up to a range of crimes and vulnerabilities.

Buckinghamshire Safeguarding Adults Board has a role in enabling partners to keep up to date with the issues this area as well as equipping members of the public in paticular those with care and support needs with the skills to protect themselves from abuse.

Woman buying something online with cardThe crimes and forms of abuse that occur through IT are in the main same types of crimes/abuse that occur in other formats, and these can include:

  • Finanical abuse – SCAMS
  • Romance scams
  • Hate Crime
  • Bullying etc

BSAB recognises that this is a new and growing area of work that the Board now needs to become invovled in and it has therefore added this area of work to its Strategy and Business plan for 2018 onwards.
