New Children and Adults Modern Slavery & Exploitation Group

A new Children and Adults Modern Slavery & Exploitation Group is being formed to focus on modern slavery and exploitation across the adults and children’s services. This will replace the existing Child Exploitation sub group and link closely with the Serious Violence Taskforce. This group will have an operational & implementation focus with a clear remit for the development and delivery of an action plan to drive forward agendas.

The Children and Adults Modern Slavery & Exploitation Group will be made of representatives from Thames Valley Police, Children & Adults Social Care, Community Safety, Healthcare Services and an Independent Lived Experience Professional.

The sub group has outlined areas of work to prioritise including:

Adults:

  • Ensuring a robust referral pathway and initial response to potential victims is in in place
  • Raising awareness of Modern Slavery & Exploitation
  • Local priorities, including adults with additional vulnerabilities, Fraud & covid related inc romance, paying for vaccinations etc
  • Early intervention and prevention for young people becoming at risk
  • Identify and safeguard victims of child exploitation
  • Identify and monitor vulnerable locations across the area
  • Empower those affected by child exploitation by supporting them to identify strategies to exit and withdraw safely
  • Use intelligence to disrupt perpetrators and bring them to justice using modern day slavery and trafficking legislation.

The Children and Adults Modern Slavery & Exploitation Group will come into effect in March 2022.
